How It Works
The PSA process utilizes adsorbent materials (typically zeolite) to separate oxygen from nitrogen in the air. The process involves the following steps:
- Air Compression: Ambient air is first compressed and passed through filters to remove any contaminants (like dust or moisture).
- Adsorption: The compressed air is then passed through a bed of zeolite adsorbent material. Nitrogen is selectively adsorbed by the zeolite, while oxygen passes through the bed, resulting in high-purity oxygen output.
- Pressure Swing: After a certain period, the pressure is reduced (or swung), which releases the nitrogen trapped in the adsorbent bed. The nitrogen is vented out, and the adsorbent material is ready for another cycle.
- Oxygen Collection: The oxygen that passes through the adsorbent bed is collected and stored in a tank or directly supplied to the application that requires it.
- Regeneration: The system regenerates by releasing the nitrogen at low pressure, allowing the adsorbent material to return to its original state, ready for another cycle of oxygen separation.
